Custom Quilt FAQ

Everything you might wonder about reserving, sending your clothing, sizing, timelines, and caring for your finished quilt.

Reserving & payment

How do I reserve a custom memory quilt?

When books are open, you reserve your spot right here on the official website. A deposit secures your place in line and is applied toward your final balance. If books are currently closed, join the Lala Letter or the waitlist to be the first to know when new spots open. Reservations and payments only ever happen on lalasewz.com — never through a social-media message.

How much does a custom memory quilt cost?

Every quilt is custom, so pricing depends on the size and how many pieces of clothing are included. Custom memory quilts currently range roughly $600–$2,000+, with a non-refundable reservation deposit that is applied to your final balance. Live prices and deposit amounts are confirmed at checkout.

Is the reservation deposit refundable?

The reservation deposit is non-refundable. It holds your spot in line and is applied toward the final balance of your quilt.

How and when do I pay the rest?

When your quilt is finished, you’ll receive a secure invoice for the remaining balance plus shipping. Everything is paid through secure checkout on the official website.

Your clothing

What kind of clothing can be made into a quilt?

T-shirts, baby clothes, jerseys, flannels, and other meaningful garments all work beautifully. After you reserve, Lala emails you to ask your quilt type and size — and she loves to hear the story behind the clothes — then sends a personalized checklist of exactly what to send.

Will my clothes be cut up?

Yes — clothing is cut as part of the process. Every quilt is laid out by hand and sewn one at a time, so each layout is one of a kind and can’t be duplicated. Because of that, please never send irreplaceable items before you’ve received your packing instructions.

How many items do I need to send?

It depends on the size you choose. Item counts are guidelines rather than strict rules, and Lala helps you figure out the right amount for the quilt you have in mind. The Throw size is the most popular everyday choice.

When and where do I ship my clothing?

After you reserve, you’ll get a personalized checklist covering what to send, what to keep, how to pack, and where to ship. Please wait for those instructions before mailing anything.

Sizing & timelines

What sizes are available?

Sizes range from a Mini keepsake (≈ 36" × 36") up to a Queen heirloom (≈ 90" × 98"), with Baby/Lap, Throw, and Twin in between. The Throw (≈ 50" × 60") is the most popular. See the full sizing and pricing guide for dimensions and what each size is best for.

How long does a custom quilt take to make?

Every quilt is made by hand, one at a time, so timelines vary with size and the current queue. Production times are estimates, not guaranteed dates — Lala will give you a sense of timing for your project along the way.

Do you ship outside the United States?

Yes — Lala has made memory quilts for customers all over the world. Shipping is calculated and invoiced with your final balance based on where your quilt is headed.

Caring for your quilt & making your own

How do I wash and care for my memory quilt?

Your finished quilt ships home with a care guide. As a general rule, memory quilts last longest with gentle care — wash cold on a delicate cycle, skip bleach and harsh detergents, and dry on low or lay flat. Always follow the specific care guide that comes with your quilt.

Books are closed — can I make my own t-shirt quilt instead?

Absolutely. The Making Memories Huggable ebook teaches Lala’s signature method step by step, so you can turn your own t-shirts into a keepsake at home. It’s available any time, even when custom spots are full.

One important safety note: reservations and payments happen only through this official website. Lala will never ask you to pay through a social-media DM, gift card, or cash app.
